The 5 Most Expensive Cars in the World (2016 Edition)

Whether it’s your need for speed or your desire to own an unbelievably rare car, you’ve no doubt dreamed of owning one of the world’s most expensive cars. For most of us, however, that dream will likely remain a dream unless you’ve got a multimillion dollar bankroll.

With names like Bugatti, Maybach, and Lamborghini, the world’s most expensive car list is complete with jaw-dropping luxury and mind-blowing speed.

How much will it set you back to join the elite club of supercar owners? You’re looking at a price range of $2.4 to $8 million. That’s right – gone are the days when a one million dollar car would sit atop the list. In fact, there are multiple cars that carry the $1+ million price tag that didn’t even make the list!

From the using highest quality parts to being produced in severely limited numbers, the following cars make up the list of the most expensive in 2016.

Maybach Exelero

Maybach Exelero

1. Maybach Exelero – $8,000,000

The custom Maybach Exelero is, by far, the world’s most expensive car EVER. Because the Exelero was actually built as a test car for Fulda Tires, there is just one in existence. The lucky owner of this vehicle is a familiar name to hip hop fans around the world. Cash Money’s Bryan Williams aka “Baby” or “Birdman” currently owns the car, and he has no interest in selling it anytime soon.

The Maybach Exelero sports a top speed of 218 miles per hour, and can go from 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. It is powered by a Twin-Turbo V12 engine. While it may not be the fastest car on this list, its body design and scarcity make it super desirable.

Lamborghini Veneno

Lamborghini Veneno

2. Lamborghini Veneno – $3,900,000

Like the Exelero, the Lamborghini Veneno has an insanely-limited production run. The car was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the car maker, and just three cars were made and sold. In fact, it would probably cost you at least two to three times the original price tag to pry one of these vehicles away from their current owners.

As the rarest and most expensive exotic sports car ever made, the Lamborghini Veneno features a bat-mobile-like design and is street legal. It tops out at 221 miles per hour, and can go from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.

The supercar is powered by an upgraded version of the Aventador’s 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine that is capable of producing 750 horsepower. It boasts a seven-speed ISR robotized manual gearbox that’s connected to the car’s all-wheel drive system.

Lykan Hypersport

3. W Motors Lykan Hypersport – $3,400,000

The Lykan Hypersport is the very first supercar to come from Lebanon-based automaker W Motors. Unlike the Exelero and the Veneno, the Hypersport was not limited to a production run less than 5 total cars.

So what is it that makes the Hypersport so expensive?

Well, it has a ridiculous top speed of 245 miles per hour, and lightning fast acceleration with a 2.7 0-60 time. Speed and acceleration alone, though, should not be enough to justify the exuberant price tag. The design, however, provides the extra features needed to make the car worth every penny. The Lykan Hypersport features diamond-coated LED lights, a gold-plated hood, and a carbon-fiber chassis. To top it all off, the supercar’s leather seats are gold-stitched.

Because it is the first supercar from the Lebanon-based automaker, the jury is still out on its overall performance, though if it performs anything like it looks, it’s going to be a sure winner.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitess

4. Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record – $2,600,000

With a mind blowing top-speed (254.04 miles per hour) and unprecedented 0-60 acceleration time (2.6 seconds), the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record is in a class by itself. Much like the Veneno, the car has a very limited production run (only 8 to be produced). It is the most expensive vehicle that Bugatti has ever offered for sale.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

5. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – $2,400,000

Rounding out the top 5 is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. This Veyron holds the title of being the fastest car in the world, hitting a top speed of 268 miles per hour. The car also has the fastest acceleration speed of any of the 5 cars on this list, clocking in at 2.4 seconds. With a 8.0-Liter W-12 Quad Turbocharged engine matted to the car’s 7 speed DSG Automated Manual Transmission, the car is easily the most popular Bugatti car, and has been for years.
